about

-Eric W. Brown (Nekrogoblikon, Swashbuckle, Vale of Pnath) writes:
"If you took The Black Dahlia Murder and Amon Amarth, blended well, seasoned with a dash of Soilwork and cooked on your oven's Capharnum setting for 666 minutes then you'd get BEREAVE, the brainchild of "Shreddy" Eddie Kim and "Evil" Evan Salvador. Their 3-track EP is a delightful, refreshingly melodic and catchy death metal offering with strong hooks, monster riffs, head-bobbing rhythms and clean, tasty shred. With each song having its own distinct groove they manage to show off their chops in different ways, keeping things consistent with nothing getting too repetitive. Song structures flow nicely without any part of the song overstaying its welcome, and the hooky bits coming back for another serving at just the right time. From blastbeat to breakdown the guitar tone, as well as the vocals, manage to sound nice and heavy with plenty of clarity throughout, drums are tastefully programmed... it's a solid self-produced effort overall. Can't wait to hear more from these lads."

-Rob O'Leary (formerly of Ancient Wind) writes:
"Bereave’s self-titled EP is a masterful tightrope walk. The three passages contained therein are as beautiful as they are bloodthirsty, honoring their genre influences without ever being subservient to them. Its progressiveness comes not from intent but organic necessity, lest the tracks buckle under the immense weight of commanding guitar riffs beyond measure or understanding. There’s a swagger and confidence to the breakneck pace these tracks exhibit, bolstered by cohesive yet unyielding death growls intent on exorcising all that is pure from this mortal realm. This is melodic death metal at its very best, refined down to its purest and most intoxicating form, and consuming its essence is surely the only way to truly pass through the doors of eternity."
